Finger Dancing

Take 5 minutes each day to create a moment of connection with your baby. Try sitting with them, singing a simple song, and adding a fun finger dance to entertain and interact together.

  1. Choose a time when you regularly have 5 minutes to spend with your baby, like getting them out of their crib each morning, after their first bottle, or while putting their socks on.
  2. Sit with your baby facing you, on the floor in front of you, on your knee, etc.
  3. Sing a song and together make those fingers dance.

Here are a few great songs to get started:

Studies show that singing to your baby builds a connection by increasing your baby's attention and displays of positive emotion toward you. Singing also lowers your baby's heart rate, decreases anxiety, and releases endorphins which can reduce pain.

Try this next:

Make up unique actions for the song, have fun, and don't hold back on getting silly! Perhaps the spider tickles you too, or the fingers go wild at the end. All of this adds some fun to the day, brings in laughter, and releases tension for your child.
